Little things: introduction out of the way

boxee

The Boxee homepage elegantly solves one of the problems with introduction videos on a homepage. Users first scan or skim for essential information: what is this? And only then decide whether to invest any time and attention in watching a video.

At Boxee.tv this is acknowledged and incorporated in the design of the homepage: a few words explaining what it is, with supporting graphics. And only on the top op the page an subtle (too subtle?) indication that there’s a video as well. Once you click the playbutton or the “professor”, the entire page slides down elegantly, giving way to the video.

Hm… they’re using Vimeo. I love that service… but Vimeo is not for commercial purposes.

Just annoys me because I go to Vimeo for arts, inspiration, ideas… and bugs me to see ‘sales’ videos. *shrug* They’re getting away with it, I guess.

Companies should use a commercial service.
